Testamentary Life Income Gifts

May 21, 2019

Linda Mazur, Senior Director of the Pomona Plan

Linda Mazur Bio:

Linda Mazur directs the Pomona Plan of Pomona College, her alma mater. Before joining Pomona’s planned giving team in 2010, she worked as an estate planning attorney in private practice, chairing the Probate, Trust, and Estate Planning Section of the Beverly Hills Bar Association in 1995. She is a graduate of UCLA Law School.

Event Description :

A real example of the good, the bad, and the ugly of life-income gifts funded through bequests or other estate planning techniques. What are the roadblocks and difficulties associated with these kinds of gifts, as well as the benefits? Mazur will share how Pomona College managed a recent testamentary life-income gift, including partnering with outside advisors. She will talk about the history of the gift, the qualified disclaimer process used to realize the gift from the decedent’s Individual Retirement Account, and the related legal, tax, accounting, and trust administration questions that had to be resolved once the gift matured.
